Hello Neighbor,

My name is Lee Garcia, and I’m running for the Santa Fe City Council District 3 seat to provide strong leadership. I know how to bring people together to get things done.

I’m running a publicly financed campaign to ensure your voice is heard and to demonstrate that anyone can play a vital role in our democracy.

I recognize the challenges facing Santa Fe and know I can help address them. We need to work cohesively to protect and preserve our beloved city and its rich history, address affordable housing, public safety, homelessness, economic stratification, redefine workforce development, and economic diversification while supporting small businesses and removing the bureaucracy that often leads to small business closures.

Political divisiveness in solving problems prevents our city and citizens from thriving. Our highly desirable District 3 corridors have great potential. I want city government to work for everyone.

What has made Santa Fe a great city is its diversity of ethnicities, age, gender, art, history, essentially, everything that makes our town unique. If we don’t intentionally preserve this, it could all go by the wayside.

District 3 citizens deserve a strong advocate at city hall. I am humbled and thankful for your consideration of my candidacy to represent you. I kindly ask for your VOTE.

Lets Do This Together!

Let’s get involved and participate to build a city that welcomes all, rallies our citizens to work cohesively to solve problems and energizes District 3 citizens. Let’s navigate and access city resources to influence decisions about issues that impact our neighborhoods. It’s time for District 3 neighborhoods to be vocal and influence city policy affecting them. Let’s be part of the solution and process.

Welcome People to Every Neighborhood: It is our duty to address affordable for-sale housing, providing access to all Santafecinos regardless of economic status. It’s how working-class citizens can build wealth and earn equity. Santa Fe’s affordable housing down payment and rental assistance programs need to be expanded and broadened; more citizens need to know about this service. My mission is to champion fair and equitable initiatives for individuals seeking assistance for affordable housing. An inclusive and interconnected city is vital to our future.

We need to combat Homelessness in Santa Fe head-on. This population of Santafecisnos warrant our full attention, and the City of Santa Fe needs to leverage its resources to create a pathway to housing, jobs and services. I am committed to prioritizing and working with current efforts on new collaborative ideas. Let’s empower every person and every organization to do this!

Our collective action will generate solutions to common problems, create, sustain and retain a viable workforce that can support current and future business and industry in Santa Fe. Enhanced public policies, human-service reforms and community support will help children and families, Santafecinos, meet the needs of today’s changing economic climate. As a city, lets diversify and identify what industries we can attract to create a well-balanced source of income for our city. It’s time to focus on more incubator-type developments that welcome small businesses, provide services to our community, and give individuals the opportunity to attain much-needed skillsets to find better-paying jobs.

City Employees deserve strong leadership. They deserve appreciation, recognition, and respect in their work environment. They merit safety, adequate training, and equitable pay structures that match our local economic demands. This can be accomplished through parity, equity, and organizational transparency.

Police Officers, Firefighters and Emergency Service Responders have a vital responsibility in keeping the public safe. The allocation of adequate funding for recruitment efforts and training programs must be a priority. Offering competitive salaries warrants attention. They merit up-to-date technology and state-of-the-art gear to make their jobs more efficient and safer. We have an immediate responsibility to manifest a solid public safety network that keeps everyone safe.

Quality of life is essential to the health of a community. Beautification of our open spaces, parks, trails, and streets, should be a top priority! Only through good fiscal responsibility can we support the departments which help us do this.

The most vulnerable to crime in our community are our youth and elderly. Far too frequently our youth fall victim to drugs,  gang and nefarious activity. Our youth deserve to have access to safe, healthy, and fun environments. To advocate for and protect them, we need to create youth mentorships programs with adequate supervision to foster and establish safe learning environments. Well-trained staff equipped with the skills to meet children’s developmental needs is key to building sustainable programming.

We have a duty to the elderly of our community. The number of people age 65 or older will nearly double by 2030, that’s about 71 million Americans (about 20% of the U.S. population). Enhancing how Santa Fe senior citizens access vital community services so they can maintain a good quality of life is a priority.

Let’s spread the power of optimism!
